Shannon Arvizu, Ph.D., is an electric car spokesperson, educator, researcher, and consultant.
I am the author of the study, “Changing the Game in the U.S. Auto Industry: The Role of Technology Movement Organizations,” as well as a green car expert for several automotive and clean tech sites (including Honk, National Geographic’s “The Green Guide,”AutoBlogGreen, TriplePundit, GreenCarReports, AllCarsElectric, and EVCast.com).
I am also a Senior Researcher with the Frameworks Institute. In this capacity, I shape powerful messages for social causes that lead to improvements for important sectors of society.
Why do I drive clean, green machines?
I got interested in electric cars because I wanted to understand how to use technology for the highest social and ecological good. I am a sociologist of technology by training. I focus on how technology solves social problems and how to build movements for shifting polluting industries towards clean tech.
The automotive industry is the only industry dependent on highly inefficient 100-year-old technology (about 80% of the oil used by an internal combustion engine is wasted as heat). It takes a lot more, however, than simply creating new technology based on a clean and efficient electric drive system to solve the petroleum problem. It takes a network of committed people and organizations to move this technology to market and drive consumer demand. My goal is to empower this network for shifting the transportation system off oil in the quickest time frame possible for maximum social, ecological, and economic benefits for all.
From a personal and consumer standpoint, I really enjoy the electric drive experience. From 2007 until today, I have driven over 50 concept and production plug-in and hybrid cars. In addition, I am the proud owner of a luxurious, white diamond Volt. You will find articles, videos, and pictures of my electric drive experiences on this site, as well as the latest new events in electric car action.
I love to share the benefits of electric drive with those in my network communities. As a young professional and a woman driver, I represent two key target consumer markets for clean cars. We are a new generation of American drivers that are ready for the technology of the future today.
